MALT Officers Meeting, Monday 8/27/2007

Attendees:

  Jeff Heneks

  Jack Mowbray

  Steve Pragel

  Tim Sauerwein

  Ben Schwalb

Orders of business:

1.      Oktoberfest.  Tim Sauerwein would like to host.  The club will pay for sausages and maybe other foods.  Date is tentatively set for Saturday October 13 at 2:00 PM.

2.      Crab feast.  We will merge with the Zymernauts’ crab feast at Goddard on Saturday September 22 (see http://www.mdhomebrewers.org/crab ).

3.      Turkey Shoot.  We have paid the $35 fee to BJCP.  Date is Saturday November 10 at Clipper City.  In addition to the cash prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place overall ($200 Best of Show, $100 - 2nd and $50 - 3rd) we might also give away some turkeys, but we will not announce this ahead of time in case the winner lives in Guam.  Any MALT member who places 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any individual category will get their entry fee reimbursed by the club.

4.      November meeting.  We’re thinking of having a meeting the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving, with all the leftover Turkey Shoot beer.  Maybe wives who plan to shop (Black Friday) could drop their husbands off, go shopping, and pick their husbands up later.  All the wives could travel together in a van and shop together.  Meanwhile the husbands would drink safely (i.e., without having to drive).  Who’s interested?  Would Friday or Saturday be preferred?  This could be a educational event too.  People will have an opportunity to compare the score sheets with the beers, to learn more about more about judging.

5.      Holiday party.  Where?  Tim Hardman’s?  Jeff’s?  Tentative date is Saturday December 15.  Jeff will contact Tim H. to see if he wants to do it.

6.      Increasing meeting attendance.  How?  More education at meetings?  Have fewer meetings?  Ideas? Steve Pragel will conduct a survey of members.

7.      Barrel.  Jeff thinks it might be infected.  Jack will stop by Jeff’s house and give the barrel a sniff.  If he thinks it’s infected, Ben has volunteered to give the barrel a home and make gueuze in it, and the club will get a new barrel.

8.      New member procedure.  Secretary gets membership form and check.  He/she send the check to the Treasurer and a laminated membership card to the new member.

9.      E-mail archives.  The archives in the MALT e-mail list have everyone’s e-mail addresses, which can be farmed by spammers.  Jeff will turn off the archives until we get a more secure way to do it.
