MALT Meeting Minutes for March 30, 2009 Officers Meeting
Attendees:
Dave Erhardt – Vice president
Matt Glidden – Guild Rep
Jeff Heneks - President
Tim Sauerwein - Treasurer
Ben Schwalb – Secretary
Minutes:
1. Treasury.
We have about $2500.
We will buy a stamp for depositing checks.
2. Bus trip.
We made about $100 on the Richmond bus trip.
We spent $83.97 on food.
There were several unsold seats.
3. Road shows. We considered commercial places like Wild Buffalo and Frisco’s, but decided that members’ homes are best.
4. Turkey Shoot.
We lost about $600 in the 2008 contest.
For 2009, we will reduce cash prizes to $100 1st prize BOS and nothing for 2nd and 3rd.
1st, 2nd and 3rd in each category will each get at least one prize.
Ben will have the prizes delivered to his house and sort them out before the contest.
5. Brewer-of-the-year. Dave will keep track of points this year.
6. Bulk purchase. We discussed the possibility of making a bulk purchase of brewing supplies. However, bulk purchases by MALT would not be nice to MDHB, which is nice to us (discounts, etc). Arrangements to sell used equipment should be okay, especially among members.
7. Styles of the month. We discussed printing style information ahead of time. Having a style of the month involves a lot of forethought if members are to brew and age beforehand. Maybe just go with no categories and just vote on BOS at each meeting.
8. Future club meetings
April 25, 7 PM at Dan & Lauree’s. Discussion: troubleshooting.
May 16 at Herb’s or Ben’s. Discussion: jumping to all-grain.
June 20 at Dave’s.
July 18 – DC pub crawl. Ask Jazs if people can park/sleep at her house?
August 15 at Mike and Jo’s. Fishing and boating.
September 19 – FSHCG crab feast in lieu of meeting.
9. Web site. We will pay if necessary to update it. Tim will check.
10. 50/50 raffles. Only at big events, not at regular meetings.
11. Barrel brew. We discussed options. (Again, I might have slept through this discussion. Anyone want to fill in?)
12. MALT banner. Where is it?
13. Try to have meetings focus a bit more on education. Have a discussion (presentation) of styles or brewing techniques or equipment at each meeting. Topics have already been proposed for the April and May meetings (see item 8).
14. Next officers meeting: Monday June 22 or 29. We’ll confirm as we approach the date.
